Located in Iringa, Tanzania, LYRA is a grassroots organisation worki ng to educate and empower girls and women in rural Tanzania so they can choose the life they want to lead. Lyra’s tool for reaching this vision is first and foremost education and entrepreneurship training opportunities for girls and women. They are a registered charity in the UK and have a sister charity in Tanzania that implements their program.

The advisory services of EARTH 51 was to develop a structure validating the existing work being carried out by LYRA and map it to the UN SDGs. To have the visibility to see their progress against 17 different impact areas of the UN SDGs has helped LYRA assess their progress so far as well as develop a strategy for the forthcoming years for the people of Iringa in Tanzania.

Iyyappan Subramaniyan founded Sri Arunodayam in May 2003 in Chennai, to take care of abandoned mentally challenged children. He has dedicated his life to this cause & become a professional care-giver and eradicate the social stigma given to this condition. Since their inception, Iyyappan and his team have rescued 349 children who have been abandoned by their parents of which 89 have been reunited with their families.

EARTH 51 is working closely with Sri Arunodayam to help increase their visibility in international circles and give them a platform to tell their story. Whilst the core focus of this non-profit is to take care of mentally destitute children, they also have a keen interest in the overall betterment of society.
